For AI used in writing: insert a 'Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process' statement immediately above the references. Include tool name and how it was used. Authors must review and edit all AI-generated output. For AI used in research methodology: describe in the Methods section with tool name, version, and manufacturer. Follows Elsevier parent policy.

Reviewers are NOT allowed to use publicly available AI tools, including but not limited to large language models, to assist with the review of manuscripts.
Exemptions
AI use as part of research methodology (e.g., biomedical imaging research) is permitted — must be described in the Methods section, not the writing-process declaration.
Enforcement
Follows Elsevier's enforcement framework. All submitters are explicitly queried about AI use during the submission process. The Lancet Research Integrity Group monitors generative AI use.
