Peer Review Restrictions
Reviewers and editors are not currently allowed to use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the peer review and manuscript evaluation process.
Exemptions
Basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, and references are exempt from declaration requirements.
Enforcement
No AI-generated or AI-altered images permitted. No AI for graphical abstracts. Cover art allowed case-by-case with prior editor permission only. Image processing must be minimal, transparent, and documented in figure legends. AI used in data analysis or research methods should be described in the Methods section; original unprocessed data must be available on request. Authors should check the Guide for Authors for their specific journal, as individual Cell Press titles may have additional requirements.
