RestrictedDisclosure Guidance
Most AI policies require disclosure of AI use in your submission.
Requirements (Where to Disclose)
Must acknowledge AI including: full name of tool, version, how it was used, and reason for use. For AI-generated images permitted under the Images and Figures policy (data visualisations, conceptual illustrations, flow diagrams, teaching illustrations), a statement declaring the image was generated by an AI tool and the tool name + version must appear in the figure legend; authors must retain all image versions and prompt records to share on request.

BioRender is actively developing an automated disclosure workflow that will provide clarity to publishers on exactly how AI was used, if at all, on its platform and the degree to which it is copyright safe.

Additional Policy Details
Peer Review Restrictions
Editors and peer reviewers must not upload files, images, or information from unpublished manuscripts to generative AI tools due to confidentiality, proprietary rights and data privacy concerns.
Exemptions
Grammar and spelling tools are exempt from disclosure requirements.
Enforcement
Policy enforced during editorial review. Manipulation of research-output, clinical, or diagnostic images via generative AI is strictly prohibited; permitted image uses (data visualisation, conceptual illustration, flow diagrams, teaching illustrations) require both submission-level disclosure and a figure-legend statement. Authors should check the Guide for Authors for their specific journal — Taylor & Francis publishes many society journals that may have additional or stricter AI requirements.
